As an amendment to motion S5M-00448 in the name of Jackie Baillie (The Economy), leave out from first “notes” to end and insert “recognises that Scotland’s economy faces many challenges in the coming year, for which narrow indicators such as GDP provide an inadequate description; urges the Scottish Government to continue to develop the National Performance Framework into a broad range of economic indicators and end its emphasis on GDP; considers that recent and predicted North Sea job losses and dramatic oil price fluctuations demonstrate a compelling reason to plan the transition away from Scotland’s current economic reliance on the fossil fuel economy, which cannot offer a long-term future; believes that such a transition is vital to secure employment, harness offshore skills, develop a sustainable economy and address concerns raised by the Governor of the Bank of England that overexposure to fossil fuels represents a risk to financial stability, and calls on all parties in the Parliament to collaborate with workers, trade unions, industry and other governments to build a just transition to a secure sustainable economy for workers of today and the future.”
