Patricia Ferguson is a member of GMB/APEX. She is the Minister for Parliamentary Business. Patricia Ferguson’s hopes for the constituency: I hope that Glasgow Maryhill will continue to benefit from the implementation of policies aimed at tackling poverty, injustice and inequality. Already the constituency has witnessed one the largest falls in the number of people unemployed. Maryhill pensioners will benefit from policies such as free personal care, free bus travel and the central initiative and the National Debate on Education will help that children and young people are equipped with the skills and knowledge they require for the future. But much still need to be done, particularly to address Glasgow's poor health record. Additional funding in the NHS, an increase of almost 50% over the next 5 years, will make a huge difference but equal access to sport and leisure facilities is also vital- and this is a particular issue in Maryhill. It is imperative that every citizen not only encouraged but is also able to access facilities aimed at improving health and well being. I hope that the Parliament can build on its achievements so far to ensure that people in Maryhill have the chance of long healthy and successful lives. Constituency focus: Greenock and Inverclyde Duncan McNeil MSP (Lab) Biography
Following 6 years on the Labour Party’s Scottish Executive Committee, Duncan McNeil was elected to the Scottish Parliament from the Greenock and Inverclyde constituency in May 1999. Duncan McNeil is an Appointed Member of the Scottish Parliament Corporate Body, Deputy Member of the Scottish Parliamentary Bureau and Labour Whip. Duncan McNeil’s hopes for the constituency: 3 golf courses, a luxury marina, breathtaking scenery, the best schools in the country – and all 20 minutes from a major international airport. Monaco? Mauritius? That island where they film the Bounty adverts? No. Greenock and Inverclyde. The place which uneducated minds still associate with industrial decline has pulled itself up by the bootstraps, embraced new industries and is now the manufacturing export capital of Scotland. And I look forward to greater changes – the opening up of prime waterfront real estate by redeveloping brown-field sites, the broadening of our economy, the integration of our transport system. In short, making Inverclyde a location of choice – both for business and pleasure. Greenock and Inverclyde is situated in the West Scotland region.
