Autism in education - call for views
The Education, Lifelong Learning and Culture Committee has announced two evidence sessions on autism in education.
To inform its session with the Minister for Children and Early Years on 2 December 2009, the Committee is inviting views from all interested individuals and organisations.
Submissions are welcomed on the following points (although other issues felt relevant are also welcomed):
- Process by which children/ young people with ASD have their condition assessed and diagnosed;
- Support for families with children/ young people with ASD in finding the best form of education and support through the education system;
- Support for children/ young people with ASD at school;
- Teaching methods which best support children/ young people with ASD;
- Support available for teachers/ head teachers of pupils with ASD;
- Impact that pupils with ASD have on classroom dynamics;
- Approaches to dealing with behaviour of children/ young people with ASD in the classroom;
- Mechanism for resolving disputes and appealing school expulsions.
Submissions should be no more than two sides of A4 paper and be e-mailed to ellc.committee@scottish.parliament.uk by Wednesday 25 November 2009.

Inquiry into Active Travel - call for views
The Transport, Infrastructure and Climate Change Committee is undertaking an inquiry into
into walking and cycling in Scotland.
As part of this work, the Committee is keen to hear views on walking and cycling from all interested individuals and organisations.
The formal remit of the Committee’s inquiry is to consider:
- The progress being made in developing active travel;
- Any barriers to further progress; and
- The further action that may be required by the Scottish Government, local authorities and other bodies to ensure that significant progress is made in the development and implementation of active travel in Scotland.
The closing date for written submission is Friday 11 December 2009.
