Excellent progress was made in 2015/16 to reduce the Parliament’s carbon emissions by 30%.
This reduction ensures that the Parliament is on course to achieve its ambitious target to reduce emissions by 42% by 2020.
The majority of the reduction was due to the installation more efficient technologies in the areas of lighting, air conditioning and pump controls and improved control of the buildings heating and ventilation systems.
Carbon Footprint
• Reduce the Carbon Footprint by 42% from the 2005/2006 total by 2020.
• Progress by the end of March 2016 - 37% reduction
Electricity
• Reduce incoming electricity use by 40% from the 2005/2006 total by 2020.
• Progress by the end of March 2016 – 34% reduction
Waste
• Reduce landfill waste by 90% from the 2005/2006 total by 2020.
• Progress by the end of March 2016 – 72% reduction.
Gas
• Reduce gas consumption from the 2005/2006 total by 15% by 2020.
• Progress by the end of March 2016 – 38% reduction.
Water
• Reduce water consumption from the 2011/2012 total by 15% by 2020.
• Progress by the end of March 2016 – 17% reduction.
Paper
• Reduce total paper consumption by 50% from the Session 2 (2003-2007) total by 2016.
• Progress by the end of March 2016 - 49%
