The remit of the committee is to consider and report on (a) further and higher education, lifelong learning, schools, pre-school care, skills and other matters falling within the responsibility of the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning; and (b) matters relating to culture and the arts falling within the responsibility of the Minister for Culture and External Affairs.

Current Business
The Committee revised its current work programme on 4 November 2009. Click here to view the work programme. The Committee has agreed to hold a number of evidence sessions: Click here for further information on the Committee's evidence sessions on the Scottish local newspaper industry. The Committee has also agreed to undertake a scoping exercise in relation to local authority funding of education and children's services. Claire Baker MSP and Aileen Campbell MSP have been appointed reporters to consider issues around widening access to higher education.
