Call for Evidence

The Justice Sub-Committee on Policing asked for views on how complaints against the police are handled under current arrangements in Scotland.  The written submissions received will inform an evidence session on police complaints handling with Police Scotland, the Scottish Police Authority and the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner on 14 January 2016.

Latest developments

Following the Sub-Committee's evidence session on 5 February 2015, Police Scotland provided clarification of the statistical information contained within the Police Investigations & Review Commissioner's report entitled Police Complaints: Statistics for Scotland 2013-14.

The Scottish Police Authority provided a progress report on its handling of complaints.

The Sub-Committee examined the new arrangements for handling complaints and investigations in respect of policing at its meetings on 5 and 19 September and 3 October 2013.
