Stage 1 Inquiry
The Scottish Government introduced the Marriage and Civil Partnership (Scotland) Bill in the Scottish Parliament on Wednesday, 26 June 2013.
The Bill would introduce same-sex marriage and also make various general changes to the law on marriage and civil partnerships.
In order to inform its scrutiny of the Bill at Stage 1, the Equal Opportunities Committee sought views both on the provisions set out in the Bill (such as allowing the religious and belief registration of civil partnerships, or civil partnerships changing to marriage), and on wider issues relating to the Bill such as freedom of speech.
The Bill was debated at Stage 1 on 20 November 2013.
