Scottish passenger rail franchise 2014

 

Remit

The Committee is undertaking a brief and focused scrutiny of the issues surrounding the apointment of the next passenger rail franchise in Scotland. The Committee intents to examine proposals for the forthcoming franchise period, due to begin in 2014, which will included consideration of:  

  • the current efficiency and accessibility of the rail network in Scotland;
  • the developments that could be made to improve the network and rolling stock for passengers;
  • the potential costs associated with any upgrades and the current providers ability to cope with and provide for, the growing demands on the rail service; and
  • the importance of and further potential for, the integration of Scotland’s network with the rest of the UK.
