Motions and amendments are normally printed the day after they are lodged. If an amendment is lodged to a motion then the original motion will appear alongside the amendment, along with any support lodged that day, in this section.
Each Monday, this section also contains all motions and amendments lodged the previous week that are still live and any motions and amendments that have been lodged for debate in the coming week. A motion or amendment is live if it has not been debated, withdrawn or otherwise deleted from the list.
Where a motion or amendment has been withdrawn, it is indicated in this section the day after it has been withdrawn. Support for motions and amendments received after they are lodged is shown at the end of this section the day after such support is received.
Motions and amendments can be published with various symbols
- Asterisks before the motion or amendment number indicate a motion or amendment published for the first time
- Asterisks also identify alterations to the text of a motion or amendment made since it was first published
- A hash symbol identifies motions eligible for debate at Members’ Business
- A diamond symbol identifies motions lodged for Members’ Business that have not yet attracted the required cross-party support
- An "R", identifies motions or amendments in which the Member who lodged it has a registrable interest.
The Parliamentary Bureau periodically deletes motions or amendments not scheduled for debate and which are over six weeks old.
Any questions in relation to this section should be directed to the Chamber Desk
New and altered motions and amendments
*S4M-02224 Marco Biagi: Boost for Scotland’s Visitor Attractions—That the Parliament welcomes the news that the refurbished National Museum of Scotland has had a 141% increase in visitor numbers since it reopened; notes that the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions figures show that the museum was the most visited attraction outside of London in 2011; further welcomes the record visitor numbers for Edinburgh Castle as well as increased numbers at the Royal Botanic Garden in the capital; considers that Scotland’s tourism industry is going from strength to strength as seen through the success of venues such as Glasgow’s new Riverside Museum, Stirling Castle and Urquhart Castle, and further welcomes the investments made by the Scottish Government, local authorities and the Scottish Lottery Heritage Fund, which it believes have ensured that, despite a tough economic climate, Scotland continues to attract visitors, both from home and abroad, through world-class attractions.
*S4M-02223 Colin Beattie: Newbattle Wins Pioneers in Education Curriculum—That the Parliament congratulates Newbattle Community High School on winning the gold Solace Best Team Award and the silver Achieving Better Outcomes Award at the COSLA excellence awards showcase held on 16 February 2012; understands that Midlothian Council nominated Newbattle Community High School for its work on the Schools of Ambition Banner, namely in the peak performances academies; recognises Newbattle for what it considers to be the innovative and visionary approaches to education that initiated the development of personalised curriculums allowing students to address their needs and fulfil their individual potential; acknowledges the efforts made by the staff, pupils, parents and partners of Newbattle in implementing a successful curriculum, and wishes them success in what it considers their revolutionary programme.
*S4M-02222 Nigel Don: Congratulations to Angus Young Engineers, Stonehaven Canoe Club and Montrose Tennis Club—That the Parliament congratulates Angus Young Engineers, Stonehaven Canoe Club and Montrose Tennis Club on being awarded £1,850, £7,500 and £8,015 respectively from the Awards for All Big Lottery Fund and understands these clubs have had success in engaging with their local communities and bringing members into the fund’s categories, better chances in life and communities are healthier.
*S4M-02221 Neil Findlay: Call to Support the Financial Transaction Tax—That the Parliament supports the call from Judith Robertson of Oxfam for the First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond, to replicate the actions of the First Minister of Wales, Carwyn Jones, and support the introduction of the EU financial transaction tax, otherwise known as the Robin Hood tax, and believes that a financial transaction tax is a small step in the right direction in tackling global poverty and adapting to and mitigating against environmental change.
*S4M-02220 Roderick Campbell: In Memory of Paul McBride QC—That the Parliament notes with sadness the untimely death of Paul McBride QC; understands that, at the age of 35, Mr McBride was the youngest person ever to be appointed QC in the UK; considers that, in his short career, he made outstanding contributions to Scots Law and public life and politics; believes that the legal profession has lost one of its most respected minds, and offers its condolences to Mr McBride’s family and friends on the sad news of his passing.

*S4M-02219 David Stewart: Withdrawal of Business and Public and Third Sector Elements from Air Discount Scheme—That the Parliament notes the recent decision by the Scottish Government to withdraw the business and public and third sector elements from the Air Discount Scheme; understands that the scheme was introduced in 2006 to make air services affordable for remote communities in the Highlands and Islands; believes that the withdrawal of business and public and third sector elements from the scheme will have a hugely detrimental effect on the remote and island communities that previously benefited; believes that the reported £2.7 million saving per year to the Scottish Government is meagre in comparison with the social and economic benefits that remote and island communities gain from the scheme; considers this to be an ill-judged decision on the part of the Scottish Government, and asks the Scottish Government to consider the reinstatement of these elements to the Air Discount Scheme.
