Big Lottery Funding in Midlothian North and Musselburgh

That the Parliament welcomes the news that the Big Lottery Fund has granted £83,674 in total to 10 projects in Midlothian North and Musselburgh in May 2011; notes that the Big Lottery Fund is investing in Scotland’s communities through its small grant schemes, Awards for All, Community Wildlife and Investing in Ideas; further notes that Scotland Royal Marines Association, Duo Gymnastics Club, The Fisherrow Trust, Dalkieth Gymnastics Club, Bright Sparks Playgroup, Dadswork, Midlothian FEI Cluster Group, Midlothian After School Clubs, Bonnyrigg After School Club and Melville Housing Association Limited are among the projects to benefit from Big Lottery Funding; considers that this funding will be a welcome enhancement to all these projects, and wishes them every success in the future.

Big Win for Athletic Club

That the Parliament congratulates Musselburgh and District Athletic Club on receiving £926 from the Big Lottery Fund 2014 Communities programme; notes that the club plans to use the additional funds to run a 12-month marketing campaign to encourage greater participation in sport and other physical activity; further notes that the club plans to send flyers to schools, place advertisements in local papers and create posters for libraries, schools and sport centres, and wishes Musselburgh and District Athletic Club great success in its campaign.

Rosewell Primary School Parent Council Receives Award for All

That the Parliament congratulates Rosewell Primary School Parent Council on receiving a £10,000 Awards for All grant from the Big Lottery Fund; notes that the Midlothian-based parent council aims to use this to run workshops with a local artist and to provide a learning and storage space for nursery children who attend the school; further notes that it is hoped that the new space will give children the opportunity to enjoy outdoor learning and playing, and wishes Rosewell Primary School the best in building its new shelter.

Congratulations to Midlothian Advice and Resource Centre

That the Parliament congratulates Midlothian Advice and Resources Centre on receiving an Awards for All grant from the Big Lottery Fund of over £8,000; notes that the Dalkeith-based centre aims to pilot a new programme that will engage young people who are not in employment, education or taking part in vocational training, will be SQA-approved and will take four young people through vocational training in warehouse management, and further congratulates Midlothian Advice and Resource Centre for having the ambition to develop this training programme.

Mayfield and Easthouses Youth 2000 Project Gets £10,000

That the Parliament congratulates Mayfield and Easthouses Youth 2000 Project on receiving £10,000 from the Big Lottery Fund’s Investing in Ideas programme; notes that the Midlothian-based project aims to use these funds to develop a feasibility study on the creation of a separate trading arm that would be known as Green Banana; understands that it is hoped that Green Banana would distribute a percentage of its profits back to the project to support the drop-in services that it gives to 12 to 18-year-olds, and further wishes Miss Sharon Stoddart and the Mayfield and Easthouses Youth 2000 Project success in this endeavour.

Funds for a Dragon Boat

That the Parliament congratulates Paddlers for Life, Scotland South East on receiving £9,308 from the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All scheme; notes that the paddling group intends to purchase a dragon boat so that it can run paddling classes for those recuperating from breast cancer treatment; praises its members for their dedication to their sport and for providing group support and rehabilitation for those recovering from breast cancer; further notes that the paddlers are hoping to receive additional funding for a second boat and for the two boats to race each other, and wishes what it considers to be this fantastic group continued success.

That the Parliament congratulates the Hollies Day Centre, in Musselburgh, on its award of £5,000 from the Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland; notes that the funds are expected to be used to allow the centre to further support the community by creating a position of a part-time dementia unit co-worker; praises Ann Proudfoot for what it sees as her continued success with the Hollies Day Centre, and wishes it the best of luck as it continues to serve the Musselburgh community.
