Question

To ask the Scottish Government how the Pharmaceutical Price Regulation Scheme rebate allocation has been calculated for 2013-14 and what the forecast for the rebate is for each of the next two years.

Answer

Pharmaceutical Price Regulation Scheme (PPRS) payments are calculated on the basis of the scheme in operation at that time. The PPRS is agreed by the Department of Health in England and the Association of British Pharmaceutical Industry.

For planning purposes, the 2015-16 draft budget currently includes £40 million from PPRS receipts to be utilised for the New Medicines Fund for both 2014-15 and 2015-16.
