Protection of Ayr United Club Badge

  • Submitted by: John Scott, Ayr, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 20 November 2015
  • Motion reference: S4M-14920

That the Parliament notes with concern a threat of legal action under an Act of the Scottish Parliament of 1592 that Ayr United’s club badge may be considered an unregistered coat of arms; believes that the application to Scottish football clubs in the 21st century of a law intended to regulate heraldry in 16th century Scotland is inappropriate, and calls for a review of the relevant legislation to safeguard the historical badges of Scottish football clubs.
