Car-Free Tourism Project

  • Submitted by: Murdo Fraser, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 10 August 2015
  • Motion reference: S4M-13915

That the Parliament welcomes the launch of the Car-Free Tourism project created by Transform Scotland, which has launched a guide for tourists to reach Scotland’s top 24 visitor attractions without the need for a car; notes that the Car-Free Tourism website provides detailed instructions on accessing sites without having to negotiate different travel planning websites; understands that walking and cycling routes are downloadable to GPS devices; recognises that several attractions are outwith major city centres, such as Culzean Castle, Stirling Castle, Urquhart Castle, Loch Lomond and the Cairngorm Mountain Railway, and believes that encouraging tourists to use public transport has the potential to ease congestion and cut down on greenhouse gasses while also offering a different tourist experience.
