Get Onside

  • Submitted by: Jim Hume, South Scotland, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 10 August 2015
  • Motion reference: S4M-13909

That the Parliament recognises the difficulties that many vulnerable Scots can experience in using self-directed support and independent advocacy; welcomes what it considers the success of Get Onside, a programme delivered by the Shine Partnership, which helps young people and health services who use or may use social work services to think about choice, control and decision making through sport; understands that course participants reported improved confidence, resilience and understanding of self-directed support and independent advocacy; notes that Murrayfield Wanderers FC is to host the next Get Onside programme in Edinburgh in September 2015, and calls on the Scottish Government to support innovative programmes exploring new approaches to helping people access support services.
