Fox Hunting Legislation in Scotland

  • Submitted by: Alison Johnstone, Lothian, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 14 July 2015
  • Motion reference: S4M-13770

That the Parliament understands that recent evidence gathered by the League Against Cruel Sports shows legitimate concerns about the effectiveness of fox hunting legislation in Scotland; believes that allowing an unlimited number of dogs to flush prey from cover makes it very difficult for foxes to be killed cleanly; calls on the Scottish Government to evaluate how robust the Protection of Wild Mammals (Scotland) Act 2002 has been in ending cruelty to animals in the name of sport, and calls on it to make appropriate alterations to its legislation once this evaluation has taken place.
