Celebrate the 2015 UN International Year of Soils

That the Parliament recognises and welcomes the 2015 UN International Year of Soils; understands that, in Scotland and other countries, the year will see events that will provide a platform for showcasing active engagement with sustainable management and protection of soil resources; believes that, as they are the foundation of agricultural development, ecosystem functions and food security, soils are vital to the Earth; considers the UN year a great opportunity to ensure that Scotland develops effective policies, research and action to protect the health and diversity of its soils today and in the future, and seeks every support so that the year can represent a continuing process of advocacy and partnership between Scotland, the international community and the UN.
