That the Parliament supports Global Divestment Day on 13-14 February 2015 and its aims of encouraging institutional investors to divest from fossil fuels; notes that the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) is the largest funded public pension scheme in Scotland; believes that the scheme’s new governance arrangements, starting in April 2015, provide an important opportunity to increase investment transparency, increase scheme member and trade union representation and allow the pension funds to divest from fossil fuels, and encourages the LGPS Scheme Advisory Board to follow international examples of pensions funds that have assessed carbon risk in their portfolios and divested from fossil fuels in order to protect their long-term financial viability.
