100 Years of Professional Planning

That the Parliament congratulates the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) on its 100th anniversary; notes that the RTPI's first meeting was chaired on 21 November 1913 by a Scot, Thomas Adams, who, in 1914, was elected as its first president; considers that professional planners and planning have made a significant contribution across Scotland, the UK and beyond in developing great places for people, improving the environment, nurturing heritage and history and economic growth; acknowledges the role that the RTPI has played in Scotland's society in planning for the public benefit and in its professionalism; appreciates the support and advice that the RTPI provides to its members; considers that it has a key role in raising the profile of the profession and generating awareness of the invaluable contribution that planning has on developing sustainable communities, protecting the environment and boosting local economies; believes that the RTPI has launched an impressive interactive timeline on its website, which provides an informative outline of the contribution of town planning over the last 100 years; congratulates everyone who is involved in the governance and management of RTPI and its staff and members for their hard work and dedication, and hopes that the it enjoys many more years of success and achievement.
