Food and Drink Charter for the Commonwealth Games

  • Submitted by: George Adam, Paisley, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 25 September 2013
  • Motion reference: S4M-07823

That the Parliament looks forward to the publication of Glasgow's 2014 Food and Drink Charter for the Commonwealth Games; notes the commitment to fair trade in the games’ procurement sustainability policy, which was published in February 2013; also notes that Glasgow has held Fairtrade City status since 2006 and that Scotland achieved Fairtrade Nation status in February 2013; considers that the 2012 London Olympic Games set new standards for fair trade procurement in food and drink for a major sporting event; considers it fitting that Glasgow 2014 will be the first Commonwealth Games to take place in a Fairtrade City in a Fairtrade Nation, and looks forward to Glasgow 2014 taking the commitment to such procurement further than under the 2012 London Olympics.
