Shin Swim Challenge

  • Submitted by: Iain Gray, East Lothian, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 20 September 2013
  • Motion reference: S4M-07775

That the Parliament congratulates Christine Howson and Saartje Drijver from East Lothian on completing their unique coast-to-coast 'shin swim' challenge; notes that the challenge saw them make their way from Loch Laxford in the west via Loch Shin and the River Shin to Bonar Bridge in the east, a distance of roughly 80 km, over two long weekends in August and September; commends Christine and Saartje and their team of volunteer helpers on what it considers this remarkable achievement and for the £4,500 that the challenge has raised so far for the Maggie’s Cancer Centres and WaterAid, and understands that Christine and Saartje believe that their feat was only possible thanks to the access provisions of the Parliament’s landmark land reform legislation.
