Democracy for Scotland Exhibition

  • Submitted by: Marco Biagi, Edinburgh Central, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 30 January 2012
  • Motion reference: S4M-01866

That the Parliament commends the Museum of Edinburgh’s Democracy for Scotland: The Referendum Experience exhibition, which explores both the 1979 and 1997 Scottish devolution referendums and displays material from the Yes and No campaigns of both; recognises the unique input of the Scottish Political Archive based at the University of Stirling to the exhibition, which collects a wide range of campaigning material from every election in Scotland; understands that, alongside traditional print campaigning material, the exhibition will host interview recordings of campaigners in both the 1979 and 1997 referendums and those involved in the establishment of the reconvened Scottish Parliament, and believes that such an exhibition will encourage people living in and visiting Edinburgh to engage with and campaign in the upcoming Scottish independence referendum in 2014.
