Troon Citizen of the Year 2024

  • Submitted by: Willie Coffey, Kilmarnock and Irvine Valley, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 11 April 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12799

That the Parliament congratulates Pauline Moriarty on being named Troon Citizen of the Year 2024, along with her daughter, Sophie, who received the first ever Junior Citizen of the Year award, after their work in memory of Jenna Moriarty; understands that the Kilmarnock mum, now living in Troon, founded charity, Beautiful Inside & Out, following her daughter Jenna’s tragic death in November 2013; notes that, now more than 10 years on, the charity has gone from strength-to-strength in organising and funding counselling and therapy sessions to help those experiencing mental ill health; recognises that good work has also been carried out by Jenna's sister, Sophie, aged 15, who received the first ever Troon Junior Citizen of the Year Award for her incredible efforts in raising funds for the charity; considers Pauline and Sophie to be an inspiration to those who have lost a loved one to suicide, and congratulates them on their very well-deserved awards.
