CAMRA East Ayrshire Pub of the Year

  • Submitted by: Willie Coffey, Kilmarnock and Irvine Valley, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 20 February 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12212

That the Parliament congratulates The Black Bull Darvel, in East Ayrshire, on winning the CAMRA East Ayrshire Pub of the Year award; understands that the pub dates back to 1840s and features a dark wooden gantry, which reflects the rich history of the former lace town; further understands that open mic nights, along with live bands, feature regularly at the pub, which, in its time, has welcomed artists who have performed at the nearby Darvel Music Festival, including Hamish Stuart, James Grant, Hamilton Loomis, Larry McCray, JJ Gilmour and Skerryvore; notes that the main bar was turned into the venue for a legendary performance by Paul Heaton of Beautiful South and House Martins fame a decade ago; congratulates Kevin and Emma MacManus for creating a fantastic social hub for local residents to enjoy, and wishes them well for the future.
