Energy and Climate Change - Amendment

  • Submitted by: Iain Gray, East Lothian, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 06 May 2014
  • Motion reference: S4M-09927.1
  • Current status: Taken in the Chamber on Wednesday, 07 May 2014

As an amendment to motion S4M-09927 in the name of Alison Johnstone (Energy and Climate Change), leave out from "opposition" to end and insert “concern in relation to fracking and calls on the Scottish Government to introduce robust national guidelines for all forms of unconventional gas extraction; agrees that unconventional gas extraction would not drive prices down for hard-pressed consumers, rendering a price freeze and reform of the energy market urgent; believes that renewable energy as a growing part of a diverse energy mix makes Scotland’s energy supply more secure and provides new jobs and businesses in the renewable energy sector as well as helping Scotland hit its carbon reduction targets; supports new community ownership models to help Scotland meet its renewable energy targets, benefit local economies through the creation of green jobs and address the threat of fuel poverty, and believes that Scotland must develop an energy policy that balances its energy needs with its climate change and carbon reduction targets as it is essential that the Scottish Government meets its targets under the Climate Change (Scotland) Act 2009.”
