To ask the Scottish Government what the uptake rate has been for the influenza vaccination in 2015 compared with 2014.

Health Protection Scotland routinely monitors the levels of flu and flu-like illness using a range of surveillance indicators. Results are published online in a weekly national influenza report throughout the October to May flu season.

To week ending 15 November 2015 (week 46) provisional data suggests that vaccine uptake to date this year compared with uptake at the same time last year was:

To ask the Scottish Government what discussions it has had with the Scottish Rugby Union and the Scottish Football Association in relation to treatment for head injuries.

The Scottish Government works closely with the Scottish Rugby Union and the Scottish Football Association on safety issues. Dr James Robson, Chief Medical Officer of the Scottish Rugby Union and Dr John MacLean from the Scottish Football Association were part of an expert group which produced new guidance on how to manage concussion sustained during grassroots sport which was launched at the Scottish sports and exercise medicine symposium in May 2015. Scotland became the first country in the world to introduce standard guidelines for dealing with concussion in sports.

The Scottish Government is committed to ensuring that everyone involved in sport is aware of the signs, and symptoms, of concussion and head injuries and understand the need to be medically assessed if they suspect they have suffered such an injury. The intention is to update the concussion guidance on a regular basis and to examine ways in which we can further develop the content and reach of the guidance moving forward.

To ask the Scottish Government what housing support it can provide for veterans and their families in light of the recommendations by the Scottish Veterans Commissioner in the document, Report on the Provision of Information on Housing for Service Leavers and Veterans in Scotland.

The recommendations made by the Scottish Veterans commissioner in the document: Report on the Provision of Information on Housing for Service Leavers and Veterans in Scotland (August 2015) sets out recommendations and findings intended to help service-leavers and their families address their housing needs. The report emphasises the importance of providing service-leavers with easily accessible, good quality housing information.

The Scottish Government welcomes the report by the commissioner and shares the aims of his recommendations. We have taken significant steps to improve awareness of how best to access housing and made it easier for those leaving the services to secure a home suitable for them and their families. We are currently considering how best to implement the commissioner’s recommendations and build on the steps we have already taken to ensure all service-leavers and veterans receive appropriate housing support to help them achieve a smooth transition to civilian life for them and their families.
