Criminal Proceedings etc. (Reform) (Scotland) Act 2007 scrutiny
Background
The Criminal Proceedings etc. (Reform) (Scotland) Bill was introduced on 27 February 2006. The Justice 1 Committee was designated as lead Committee on the Bill. The Bill to reform Scotland’s summary justice system, and its provisions include reform of the system of bail and remand; extension of the range of alternatives to prosecution; changes in the law relating to criminal proceedings; the way in which fines are collected and enforced and the establishment of justice of the peace courts in place of district courts.

Royal Assent and Commencement
The Bill received Royal Assent on 22 February 2007, and will be known as the Criminal Proceedings etc. (Reform) (Scotland) Act 2007.
