Equal Opportunities Committee - Equalities in Scotland: A Review of Progress
BACKGROUND
The Equal Opportunities Committee agreed to conduct an exercise to assess how much movement there had been in the equalities arena in Scotland since the establishment of the Scottish Parliament.
The key objectives of this exercise were—
- to identify progress achieved against the equalities agenda in Scotland since 1999;
- to identify key areas where there has been insufficient progress;
- to identify cross-cutting issues in relation to the equalities agenda; and
- to develop a list of priorities for future action.
It was anticipated that the final outcome of the review would form both the basis of a legacy paper for the successor Equal Opportunities Committee and a potential basis for engagement with the forthcoming Commission for Equality and Human Rights (CEHR).
