S3M-01589 Shirley-Anne Somerville (Lothians) (Scottish National Party): Asylum Application of Jojo Jako Yakob— That the Parliament welcomes the Scotland on Sunday campaign highlighting the case of Jojo Jako Yakob who fears persecution in his home country of Syria because of his sexual orientation; notes with grave concern the comments by a spokesperson at the Syrian Embassy in London in which homosexuality is described as a disease which Syria sought to treat, and calls on the UK Government to impose a moratorium on the deportation of gay and lesbian asylum seekers, who fear that they will be persecuted in their home countries, until government policy on this matter can be fully reviewed.
